A little bit about me.
My name is Song. I’m a self-
My early influences in art was Disney animated movies. Yeah, the classics such as Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid. Their stories just had so much magic in them and I couldn’t help but fall in love with every character. And then came Sailor Moon, a Japanese anime, English dubbed for American television. Serena was such a clueless klutz but when she transformed into the heroine that was Sailor Moon, you had to love her sincere efforts to save the world. Eventually, I got into the more serious animes, tending to watch the originals with English subs rather than dubs. It just felt more authentic that way. Then the translated mangas came out. It was a little expensive collecting all the graphic novels, but I managed to purchase several series that I loved.
Anime and manga definitely played a fair part in developing me as an artist but not just in my drawings but also my writings. Yes, I also consider myself a writer. And actually, I believe myself to be a writer first and an artist second. I write pretty grand stories, haha. And since I love art too, it was natural that I ended up creating sequential art or you can call it comics.
If I had to describe my art style, I wouldn’t really be able to categorize in any of the popular genres. It’s really a mix of stand out styles meshed with my own imaginings. And I find that my style is always evolving, so I can’t really stop to give it a permanent label.
My journey as an artist has had it’s ups and downs. There was a point in time when I quit drawing completely. I didn’t pick up pencil or paper for several long years. I only got back to it after experiencing a spiritual walk. So now, art has a deeper meaning to me. I draw and make art because it helps me express my creativity. It let’s me connect with my inner self.
